Sleep is much more important than most people think. In fact, it can have a significant impact on your longevity and health. Humans evolved to have much more sleep.
Prior to the advent of the electric light 140 years ago people used to go to bed when it got dark. They would arise when the sun came up.
Since then our days have got longer (we are much more active in the evenings). The last 140 years represents only 0.007% of human history. A negligible duration on an evolutionary timescale.
Time to start taking sleep seriously.
A good night's sleep is incredibly important for your health. In fact, it’s just as important as eating healthy and exercising. Unfortunately, the Western environment is interfering with natural sleep patterns. People are now sleeping less than they did in the past, and sleep quality has decreased as well.
